Losing My Job Was the Beginning, Not the End

I didn't see it that way at first. When I lost my job, the first thing I felt wasn't opportunity — it was fear. Real, heavy, what-am-I-going-to-do fear. Bills don't stop because your income does. Life doesn't pause because you need a minute to catch your breath.

But somewhere in between the stress and the hustle of picking up delivery shifts to keep things moving, something else was quietly happening. An idea was forming. A brand was being born. And looking back now, I can see clearly what I couldn't see then — that closed door was one of the most important things that ever happened to me.

"Sometimes God has to close a door so loud that you have no choice but to stop leaning on it and start walking in a new direction."

The Hustle in the Hard Season

There's a version of the story that sounds inspiring in hindsight — lost job, started a brand, built something beautiful. But the real version had a lot of exhaustion in it. A lot of late nights. A lot of doing deliveries during the day and working on designs at night. A lot of moments where I questioned whether any of this was going to work.

What kept me going wasn't certainty. It was stubbornness rooted in faith. I kept telling myself: God didn't bring me this far to leave me here. And I chose to believe that even on the days it was hard to feel it.

What Loss Can Teach You

Losing something you depended on forces you to find out what you're actually made of. And I found out I was made of more than I thought. I found out I could build something from nothing. I found out that grit looks like showing up even when you're tired, even when you're unsure, even when no one is watching.

I also found out that the version of me that existed before that job loss wasn't the final version. She was just the draft.

"The comeback is always greater than the setback — but you have to stay in the game long enough to see it."

You Are Not Your Circumstances

If you're in a hard season right now — if something was taken from you, if something ended that you didn't want to end — I want you to hear this: you are not your circumstances. Your situation is not your identity. And this chapter, as painful as it is, is not the whole story.

Grace & Backbone exists because of loss. Because of a hard season that could have broken me but didn't. And if you're reading this, I believe your hard season has something in it too — something being built, something being prepared, something getting ready to emerge.

Don't give up before you get to see what it is.

For the Ones Who Keep Going
